Baccarat Card Game

Baccarat is a term that comes from "baccarat", an Italian word meaning "zero". This refers to the value given to the Kings, Queens, Jack and tens when playing baccarat. Meanwhile, the other cards have values equivalent to their face values.

Usually, a regular game of baccarat is held in an elegantly roped section of the casino. Baccarat players come with their suits and dresses making this game both unique and elegant.

The primary goal of this game is to bet on the hand that has a value of nine, or nearest to it. Players of baccarat do not play against each other. Instead, they are playing against their own intuition and luck.

A baccarat game always starts with the betting. The players place their bets on any of the betting areas in the baccarat table. The Bank and the Player are the two major betting areas in the game. More often than not, bets are made on either two of them. A bet for Banker and Player having the same value of hands, is a bet for the "Stand-off" betting area". This area rarely wins but the payout is considerably higher that the Banker and the Player.

After placing the bets, the cards will be dealt to the Banker and also the Player. Each hand will receive two cards. If the deal results to eight or nine on either the Player or Banker, the hand will "stand". No cards will be further dealt to these hands. Any other number that results from the dealing will be subject to the rules that are automatically put into effect and will decide whether another card will be dealt to a hand.

In baccarat unlike blackjack, the hand can never be busted. If the hand totals to a value higher than nine, the value of the card will be the result of adding up the two digits of the initial value of the hand. Adding a hand to the face cards and tens will equal to the initial value of the card as these card does not value anything.

When the value of the hand is already established, the caller or croupier" will announce the winning hand. The dealers will then collect the bets that are lost and will pay out the winning hand, with some amount paid as a fee for the casino. The same process goes all over again, until the players wish to leave the baccarat table.
