The Variations of Baccarat

Baccarat has many variations in play that you can find in different parts of the world. This article talks about the kinds of baccarat and what differentiates them from the normal game, american baccarat.

EUROPEAN BACCARAT

European baccarat is slightly different from American baccarat in that the player has the choice to stand or draw on 5. The banker who is controlled by the dealer can opt to draw a third card, though the casino usually has the same rules of play as American baccarat.

In this variation, the casino finances the banker's hand. The banker funds $1,500. If a player bets $1000 and another player bets $500, the other players may not bet anymore. If a player wants to place an entire bet, he says "banco" and other players are no longer allowed to bet on that particular round.

CHEMIN DE FER

Chemin de fer is a French word which means "railroad," in that the shoe moves counterclockwise around the table just like a train. The objective is to get the highest winning hand possible. Chemin de Fer can be found in some European casinos, mostly in France.

You are not allowed to bet on the Punto (player) or the Banco (banker), you have to be either of the two. The difference is that the casino cannot be the banker. The bank revolves around the players and if the role of banker is refused by a player, it moves on to the other players.

The casino is not directly involved in betting, but it provides the "croupier" or dealer who enforces the rules, as well as the gambling equipment. The casino gets a 5% rake or commission.

Like European baccarat, players of Chemin de fer can choose to draw or stand on 5. The banker's play is also optional.

BACCARAT EN BANQUE

In this baccarat variation, only the house plays the role of banker. Since the casino is the banker, the bets are much larger than when a player is the banker. In this game, one bank hand and two player's hands (instead of one in American baccarat) are dealt. Players are not allowed to bet on the dealer's hand, only on one or two of the player's hands.

MINI BACCARAT

Mini baccarat works just like American baccarat but is open to more gamblers. This variation has lower minimum table bets than the American game. Unlike in American baccarat, the bank is always played by the dealer.
